AFRICOM Deputy Commander Meets UK Defense Leaders in London to Discuss Regional Security
“Today we welcomed Lt. Gen. John Brennan to PJHQ,” said Air Vice-Marshal Phil Robinson, PJHQ Chief of Staff of operations, “in which we discussed the U.S.-UK partnership, focusing on shared interests in Africa and furthering security cooperation.”
Brennan also met with UK Special Forces Commander, Maj. Gen. James Martin, and other leaders within the PJHQ. Discussions centered around U.S. strategic shifts, growing terror threats in Western Africa and the Sahel, counter-narcotic efforts, and innovative solutions AFRICOM is working toward, to include the recently unveiled Africa Multidomain Training and Experimentation Center (AMTEC) in Morocco.
“It was a pleasure to meet with my friends counterparts here in the United Kingdom,” said Brennan, “The UK is, and remains a critical ally who shares our concerns over the growing terrorist organizations in Africa which threaten our homelands. We discussed our shared interests in partnering together with African nations to capitalize on emerging interrelated security and economic opportunities across the continent .”
