South Africa denounces Israel for Israel military attacks on Iran

(MENAFN) The South African government has voiced strong condemnation of Israel’s recent military strikes on Iranian territory, expressing serious concern over the scope and impact of the attacks, which reportedly targeted military installations, nuclear sites, and civilian infrastructure.

According to statements made on Friday, the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) highlighted distress over reports indicating that both civilians and military personnel were among the casualties. The response followed Iran's claims that the Israeli strikes amounted to a declaration of war—a sentiment echoed in regional media coverage.

In retaliation, Iran launched its own airstrikes that same night, with explosions and aerial bombardments reported in both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Speaking from Pretoria, Chrispin Phiri, spokesperson for the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, underscored the gravity of the situation. “These actions raise serious concerns under international law, including the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the protection of civilians enshrined in the UN Charter and international humanitarian law,” Phiri stated.
